Alexis Eric Velasquez

Alexis Eric Velasquez, age 23, passed away on March 27, 2009 in Albuquerque. He was born February 14, 1986 in Liberal, KS to the home of Alfredo and Geraldine Anne (Leyba) Velasquez. He moved with his family to Albuquerque at age 4. Alexis was raised in Albuquerque,where he attended Taylor Middle School, Valley High School and graduated from Schools on Wheels in 2004. He worked for Subway and later for Mary’s and Tito’s Restaurant, he most recently was employed by Circle K. He had a love for music and composed and wrote music. Alexis was preceded in death by his father Alfredo Velasquez in 1990, maternal grandmother Mary Jean Leyba in 1981 and his paternal grandparents Hilario and Aurelia Velasquez. Alexis is a loving son, brother, grandson and friend, he is survived by his mother Geraldine Hern and her husband Gerald of Albuquerque, two brothers, Ahmaud Leyba of Albuquerque, NM; Dominic Velasquez of Las Vegas, NM; a sister, Jessica Velasquez of Florida and his maternal grandfather, Oliver Leyba of Dilia, NM. Rosary services will be held on Tuesday, March 31, at 10:00 AM from St. Joseph Church in Anton Chico with the funeral mass to follow at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at the Dilia Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brett Saavedra, Joel Talbot, Jhette Gonzales, Rex Saavedra, Adam Ortiz, Josh Romero and Christian Martinez. Honorary bearers will be Luke Padilla and Kenny Behne.
