Mae Dell Hodge, 82 of Fort Sumner, NM died Monday, December 19, 2005 at Laurel Ridge Care Center in Clovis following an illness. Mae Dell was born December 4, 1923 in Springer, NM the daughter of George C. and Lizzie (Gleaton) Anderson. Mae Dell was reared and attended school at Springer, NM Littlefield, TX and Fort Sumner. While in school at Fort Sumner she worked for Mr. Redick the superintendent. She also worked at the Drug Store in Fort Sumner and as a waitress for many years. Mae Dell loved the outdoors, fishing and camping. While living in Roswell Mae Dell met and married Paul Hodge on March 31, 1962 in Roswell. They made their home in Merced, CA where he was stationed for several years. They lived on a turkey farm while living in Merced. They loved their dogs and while they never had children, they loved their dogs. Mae Dell and Paul loved to go camping and fishing. Following her husbands death in 1983, Mae Dell returned to Fort Sumner and moved into the family home on Lake Avenue. She loved to decorate the basement during the holidays. She enjoyed having her brothers, sisters and their families over during the holidays. Friday mornings was always a special time for Mae Dell’s family, she always made doughnuts. She loved to cook for her family, she also loved dancing, singing and attending the family reunion. Mae Dell was preceded in death by her husband Paul Hodge in 1983; her parents; three brothers Andy, Carl, and Joe Anderson; four sisters L G Sinclair, Thelma Anderson, Eva Teal, and Jewell Sasser. Survivors include a brother Doug Anderson of Gaston, Indiana; five sisters Dorothy H. Newman; Fran Nahlovsky, and Blanche Boyd all of Fort Sumner; Fern Hay of Pep, NM; and Wanda Mechnig of Roswell, NM. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many good friends. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 21, 2005 from the Chavez Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Sumner with Rev. Anna Teeter officiating. Cremation has taken place. All arrangements are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home in Fort Sumner, New Mexico.
