Isabel Olivas Ulibarri, age 94, passed away unexpectedly on February 13, 2009 at the Mountain View Hospital in Las Cruces. Isabel was born on May 23, 1914 in Chaperito, NM to the home of Jose Federico and Maria Modesta (Olivas) Ulibarri. Isabel worked as a waitress for various restaurants and as a cook for the Santa Rosa Consolidated schools for many years. She was a member of the St. Rose of Lima Parish where she was active in the Altar Society, Sacred Heart Society and Las Hijas de Maria. In her spare time, Isabel loved to do quilting. Isabel is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers; Ramon and Joe Ulibarri. Survivors include a daughter, Cristina Urban and husband Patrick of Las Cruces; grandchildren, Alicia Hernandez and husband Joe; Javier Urban, Carla Urban, great grandchildren; Lawrence Hernandez and Daniel Hernandez, a special nephew; Gilbert Ulibarri and wife Shirley of Albuquerque along with their children; Reyna Griego and husband Ruben and their son Paul, Francesca Ortiz and her husband Aaron and their children; Analisa and Juliana. Also surviving are her sisters; Mela Bonney of San Pedro, CA, Stella Martinez and husband Joe A. of Santa Rosa; Magdalena Romero of Albuquerque; a brother; Eloy Ulibarri and wife Viola of Albuquerque, sister-in-law Patsy Ulibarri of Albuquerque along with numerous nieces, nephews and a host of relative and friends. Rosary services will be held on Tuesday, February 17, at 7:00 PM from St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Santa Rosa, NM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 18, at 10:00 AM also from St. Rose of Lima Church with Father Antonio Mondragon officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Serving as Pallbearers will be Phillip Romero, Tony Ulibarri, Paul Griego, Robert Bonney, Javier Urban and Rudy Sanchez.
