Joe Martin Garcia, 40 of Fort Sumner, NM died Friday, March 4, 2005 in an automobile accident at St. Vrain, NM. Joe was born January 14, 1965 in Albuquerque, NM the son of Martin and Josie Lopez Garcia. Joe and his family moved to Fort Sumner in 1979 where he attended school. Joe graduated from Fort Sumner High School in 1984. Following graduation Joe worked for GEO Seismograph and traveled across the United States with the company. Joe later worked for Pendleton Gas Company and delivered propane in Fort Sumner. He also worked at Pueblo Conoco and currently was employed at ZLR Tire in Fort Sumner. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church. Joe enjoyed fishing, cruising the Fort Sumner valley, and visiting with his friends and family. He was preceded in death by his mother, Josie in 1972, his father Martin in 2004; Paternal grandparents Guadalupe & Bonifacia Garcia and Maternal grandparents Florentino and Francesquita Lopez. Survivors include a son Arron Chavez of Fort Sumner; two sisters Sandra Vigil (Pete Calzada) of Clovis, NM, and Josie Lopez and husband Aurelio of Fort Sumner; one brother Gabriel Garcia of Fort Sumner. Also surviving are seven nieces and nephews, three great nieces and nephews along with many other relatives and a host of good friends. Rosary services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 9th from St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated from the church at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 10, 2005 with Father Sotero A. Sena officiating. Burial will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Alex Segura Jr., Timothy Segura, Billy Rodriguez, Aurelio Lopez, Danny Zamora, and Gabriel Baca.
