Isaac G. Lopez Sr., 67, was called to be with the Holy Family on March 3, 2005 after a lengthy illness. Isaac was born to Maximiliano and Gregorita Lopez on July 7, 1937 at the location where Lake Sumner, NM stands today. He was raised in nearby Ft. Sumner where he graduated from Ft Sumner High School in 1956. Isaac was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1961 and he served honorably during the Cuban Missile Crisis under President John F. Kennedy. Isaac moved to Las Cruces where he met and fell in love with the former Sally Barreras. They were married on December 11, 1965 and they joyfully welcomed five children into the world. Isaac retired from the State of New Mexico as an Inspector for the Department of Transportation. He was a very hard working man who spent his life working on or around big rigs, which he loved doing. Isaac’s greatest accomplishment was raising his children in a strong faith in God and his dedication to working hard for his family. Isaac is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Sally Lopez, of the family home in Las Cruces, NM. Three daughters Alice Carabajal and her life partner Danny Morales; Anna Maria Lopez; and Elizabeth Warpula and husband Todd all of Las Cruces; two sons Isaac B. Lopez II, his life partner Susan Wilkinson of Las Cruces; Jose (Joe) Felis Lopez and wife Debbie of Denver, Colorado. Isaac is also survived by eight sisters, Trudy Preece, Yolanda Knodle, and Betty Jo Montalvo of Las Cruces; Maria Garcia and Rita Gallegos of Ft. Sumner, NM; Esther Segura of Roswell, NM; Francis Potts of Tipton, Oklahoma, and Velen Anthony of Albuquerque; four bothers Justo (Jay) Lopez and Richard Lopez of Ft Sumner; Maximiliano Lopez Jr. of Beaumont, Texas, and Bobby Ray Lopez of Colorado Springs, Colorado; twelve grandchildren Adrian Coe, Savannah, Ariane, and Jade Carabajal, Adam Morales, Jazmin and Brandon Lopez; Jacqueilyn and Ezequiel Loppez; Erika, and Paul Isaac Warpula, and Elleana Lopez. Three aunts Carolina Griego, Louisa Gonzales and a special Aunt, his second mother, Eloisa Lopez all of Fort Sumner, NM. He is preceded in death by his parents and a Granddaughter, Brittani Alexandra. Rosary services will be held at 7:00 pm., Monday, March 7, 2005 from St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner. Funeral mass will be celebrated from St. Anthony’s Parish on Tuesday, March 8, 2005 at 10:00 am with Father Leo Padget officiating. Isaac will be laid to rest with Military Honors at Ft. Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Adrian Coe Carabajal, Phillip Barreras, Todd Warpula, Louie Gallegos, Robert Kevin Lopez, and Bobby Preece.
