Edith Crawford

Mary Edith Crawford, 99 of Portales and formerly of Roswell, NM died Friday, August 1, 2008 at Heartland Continuing Care Center in Portales. She was born March 16, 1909 in Gordonville, Texas the daughter of William Henry and Lillie (Mills) Meek. Edith married Cecil Crawford on May 28, 1928 in Gordonville, TX. She was a homemaker. Edith enjoyed sewing, and made many quilts she also enjoyed working in her garden and attending her church, Tabernacle Baptist Church in Roswell. Edith and Cecil made their home in Roswell from 1929-2005 when she moved to Portales. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1981; five brothers Amos, Raymond, James, Tommy and Paul Meek; and two sisters Corina Jobe and Delphia Winchester. Survivors include three sons Curtis Crawford of Lake Sumner, NM; Joe Crawford of Portales, NM; Burnard Crawford of Boston, MA; a daughter Mary Green of Texas and one sister Rachel Cunningham of Revenna, TX. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. A committal service will be held at 1:30 PM Monday, August 4, 2008 at South Park Cemetery in Roswell, NM.
