Mela T. Aragon, age 77, passed away on Saturday, December 27, 2008 at her residence in Vaughn following an illness. Mela was born December 28, 1930 in La Palma, NM to the home of Tranquelino and Manuelita (Archibeque) Trujillo. Mela and her family moved to Vaughn in 1945. On February 2, 1948 she married Elias Aragon in Vaughn. Mela was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church and was the last surviving member of the Sacred Heart Society. She enjoyed sewing and was known as “The Queen of the House”. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Elias; a son Albert Aragon; brothers and sisters, Catalina Encinias, Able Trujillo, Frank Trujillo, Bennie Ortiz, Simona Chavez, Adelina Encinias, Emma Madrid, Cleo Espinosa, Lucy Trujillo and Rosie Trujillo. Survivors include her children; Kathie Lucero of Vaughn; Margie Gutierrez and husband Albert of Santa Fe; Bernice Sanchez and husband Don of Vaughn; Dicky Aragon and wife Anna of Tijeras, NM; Grandchildren Patrick Gutierrez, Martin Sanchez, Doreen Farrar, Daniel Gutierrez, Vincent Sanchez, Loretta Castillo, Tina Gutierrez, Christopher Lucero, Mariposa Belew and Maria Aragon. Also surviving are 18 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and a host of relatives and friends. Rosary services will be held on Tuesday, December 30, at 7:00 PM from St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Vaughn. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at 11:00 AM from St. Mary’s Church with Father Steve Sanchez officiating. Burial will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Vaughn. Pallbearers will include Frank Ortiz, Jerry Madrid, Joe Trujillo, Joe Chavez, Don Sanchez, Albert Gutierrez, Ruben Encinias and Gilbert Lucero.
