Jane Portwood, 70 of Taiban, New Mexico died Monday, November 14, 2005 at Plains Regional Medical Center following an illness. Jane was born November 14, 1935 in Las Vegas, NM to the home of Emilio Weathers and the former Inez Warder. She was reared in Las Vegas and Las Golondrinas. Jane attended school in Las Vegas, graduating from Robertson High School. Jane worked as a Nurse for many years at St. Mary Corwin Hospital in Pueblo, CO; Vegas Grandes Care Center in Las Vegas; UNLV Medical in Las Vegas, NV; and the Pecos Valley Care Center in Fort Sumner. While working at the Pecos Valley Care Center, Jane attended Clovis Community College. Jane married Bill Portwood on November 28, 1980 in Tucson, Arizona. They made their home in Fort Sumner for a short time before moving to Taiban in 1994. Jane loved to read, garden, work puzzles, and watch football. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed baking for her family. Jane was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Jane was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters Miquela Weathers, Sylvia Weathers, Linda Cordova, Alice Lopez; two brothers Louie and Frank Weathers. Survivors include her husband Bill Portwood of Taiban, NM; three daughters Patsy Jaramillo and husband Johnny of Taiban; Bonnie Owens and husband Gary of San Antonio, TX; Dorothy Werne and husband Mike of Indianapolis, Indiana; three sons Frank Gomez and wife of Nadine of Amarillo, TX; Jim Gomez and wife Linda of Nora Springs, Iowa; Tim Gomez and wife Tammy of Hobbs, NM; two step-daughters Carmen Imergoot and husband Jeff of Albuquerque; Sheridan Stongeagle of Arizona; a brother Joe Weathers and wife Dolores of Pueblo, Colorado and her twin sister Andrea Weathers of Carrizozo, NM. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 17, 2005 from the Taiban Cemetery, Taiban, NM with Mary McClain officiating. Pallbearers will be Gary Owens, John Jaramillo, Gregory Owens, Andrew Jaramillo, Matthew Jaramillo, Tim Gomez, Joshua Jaramillo, and Christopher Owens. Honorary bearers will be all her family, friends, and the members of Taiban Fire Department. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10am to 6pm. A family prayer services will be held at 6pm Wednesday at Chavez Funeral Home, Sister Teresita Garcia will lead the prayers.
