Jack Lee Potter, 73 of Slaton, TX died Wednesday, February 6, 2008 in Lubbock, TX following a sudden illness. Jack was born September 23, 1934 in Fort Sumner, NM to the home of LeRoy and Irene (Snead) Potter. Jack was reared and attended Fort Sumner schools. He later attended E.N.M.U. in Portales. He served in the U.S. Army for two years. He started truck driving for R.L. Boren – Rio Pecos Oil Company and later for Robert Heath Trucking Co in Lubbock, TX. In the 1970’s he purchased is own truck and began Jack Potter Trucking Company. Jack was a member of the Church of Christ, he enjoyed fishing. He was preceded in death by his father Roy Potter in 1984 and his mother Irene Potter in 2001. Survivors include a sister Jetty Jo Paul and husband Henry of Fort Sumner; a brother James W. Potter and wife Kathy of Bloomfield, NM; a niece Gretchen Potter of Kentucky; two nephews Robert Potter and wife Daelena of Kentucky and J.L. Potter and wife Barbara of Austin, TX. Also surviving are several grandnephews, extended family, co-workers and many friends and fellow truck drivers. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, February 11, 2008 from the Fort Sumner Church of Christ with Jesse Ortiz officiating. Burial will follow in the Potter family plot, Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Tim Potter, Willie Patterson, Hadley Patterson, Ab Hendley Jr., Terry Potter and J.L. Paul. Honorary bearers will include all his fellow truck drivers and friends. Visitation will be Sunday from 1PM to 6PM at the funeral home. The family prefers memorial contributions to the Fort Sumner Cemetery Association, P.O.
