Tomas Alex Velasquez, age 69, passed away May 19, 2004 at his residence in Anton Chico following an illness. Alex was born May 2, 1935 in Dilia, NM to the home of Hilario and Aurelia Padilla Velasquez. He was reared and attended schools at Anton Chico and Dilia. He married Patsy Gutierrez on May 11, 1968 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Anton Chico. Alex worked as a barber and helped his wife Patsy at the Anton Chico Post Office. Alex was a member of the Anton Chico Volunteer Fire Department and St Joseph Catholic Church. Alex loved hunting and looking for arrowheads. On one occasion he found dinosaur bones and donated them to the Museum of Natural History in Albuquerque. Alex was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother and will truly be missed by his family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Marcella Padilla and Carmen Chavez and a nephew Alfred Velasquez. Survivors include his wife Patsy of the famly home in Anton Chico, two sons, Tim Velasquez and wife Joann of Santa Rosa, Jeremy Velasquez and wife Michelle of Anton Chico, a daughter, Clarice Trujillo and husband Vidal of Los Lunas, and three grandchildren Martin and Amber Trujillo and Alex Velasquez. Also surviving are his brothers and sisters, Isabel Martinez of Santa Rosa, Emiterio Velasquez and wife Terry of Roswell, Pat Velasquez and wife Mary of Santa Rosa, Marilyn Gallegos and husband Pat of Albuqueruqe, Hilario Velasquez, Jr. and wife Mildred of Albuquerque, Max Velasquez and wife Gabby of Santa Rosa and Dolores Cordova and husband David of Anton Chico along with numerous nieces, nephews, a host of relatives and many friends. Rosary services will be held at 7:00 P.M. Friday, May 21, 2004 from St. Joseph Catholic Church in Anton Chico. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. from St. Joseph Church with Father Patrick Duffy officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Anton Chico. Serving as Pallbearers will be Adam Cordova, Chris Gallegos, Steven Padilla, Melvin Martinez, Leroy Chavez, Eddie Velasquez, Michael Velasquez, Kevin Velasquez and William Velasquez.
