Jose Leon Martinez, age 93, a lifelong resident of Pintada, NM passed away on February 8, 2005 at the Laurel Hills Healthcare Center in Tucumcari, NM. Jose was born in Pintada, NM on May 14, 1911 to the home of Jose Alcario and Faustina Garcia Martinez. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Ignacita Rita Martinez, his sisters; Rose M. and husband Claudio Nelson; Sabinita and husband Joe T.Gonzalez; Frances and husband Joaquin Campos; brothers Napoleon and Faustin Martinez, also a special brother-in-law Gilbert Wallace; sister in laws Margie and Annie Martinez. He is survived by his sister Amelia Wallace of Albuquerque; brothers, Rudy Martinez of Pintada, Joe A. Martinez and wife Stella of Santa Rosa, sisters in law Tillie Martinez of Santa Rosa and Thelma Martinez of Albuquerque. He was a Veteran of World War II having served in the Aleutians Islands and the Eurpoean Theater from 1942 through 1946. Jose was a lifelong rancher and enjoyed the work of raising cattle and sheep. He was very fond of all his friends and neighbors and enjoyed sharing their company during brandings and cattle shipping get togethers. Rosary services will be held on Thursday, February 10, at 7:00 PM from St.Rose of Lima Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 11, at 10:00 AM also from St. Rose Church with Father Nick Nichols officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Joseph Cemetery. Serving as Pallbearers will be Patrick Martinez, Arthur Campos, Gilbert Campos, Rudy Martinez, Jr., Eric Wallace, Ronald Martinez and Andre Martinez. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be Blas Hohne, Chris Sisneros, Robert Saiz, Gerald Gonzalez, Manuel Martinez, Louie Martinez, Larry Nelson, Johnny Martinez and Hector Martinez.
