James Franklin Nance, 73 of Farwell, TX died Saturday, July 5, 2008 at Lubbock Heart Hospital following a sudden illness. James was born December 15, 1934 in Gatesville, Texas to the home of Samuel Herbert Nance and the former Velva Cally Pickel. He was raised in Fort Sumner where he attended school and graduated with the class of 1953. He attended NMSU for one year and the University of Arkansas for three years. James served in the U.S. Armed Forces as a member of the United States Marines from 1954-1955. He married Lillie Jean McAdams in January 1968 at Fort Worth, TX. James worked as a lineman for the City of Fort Worth for 28 years, he retired in1986. He served as president of North Texas High School Rodeo Association for 2 years; served on the Board of Directors for Youth National Finals Rodeo for two years. He enjoyed reading Zane Grey and Louis L’Amour novels and watching his Dallas Cowboys play. He enjoyed visiting and talking with people. James made his home in Fort Worth, TX from 1958 – 2007. He moved to the Farwell Convalescent Center in July 2007. James was preceded in death by his wife Lillie Jean Nance in June 2007, his parents, a brother Charlie Nance and a half brother Herbert Nance. Survivors include two sons Joel B. Nance of Portales, NM; James Jeffery Nance of Fort Worth, TX; a daughter Jaqueline Lynne Robinson of Las Cruces, NM; six grandchildren Justin, Jayna, Katy, Clay, Ashton and Tyler. Also surviving are other relatives and friends. Graveside funeral services were held at 3:00 PM Wednesday, July 9, 2008 from the Nance family plot, Fort Sumner Cemetery, Fort Sumner, New Mexico.
