Lawrence E. “Pinky” May, 71, of Clovis, NM died Tuesday, December 12, 2000 at Sunbridge High Plains Nursing Center following an illness. Mr. May was born April 2, 1929 in Wilson, Texas to the home of Walter Edwin May and the former Bess McCormick. He attended school at Wilson, TX and later attended and graduated from Hardin-Simmons University in 1952. He married June Covey in 1951; two sons were born to this union, Wade and Scott. He later married Lisa Claypoole and two children were born to this marriage, Zachary and Ashley. Lawrence taught school for three years but his real love was farming. He farmed in Idaho from 1969-1976, Arizona from 1977-1979, before moving to the Farwell, Texas area where he farmed for several years. While living in Arizona he was a member of North Phoenix Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father Edwin May in 1950 and his mother Bess May in 1999. Survivors include three sons Wade May of Buhl, Idaho; Scott May of Plainview, TX; Zachary May, one daughter Ashley May both of Clovis, NM. Also surviving are 3 grandsons, a brother Jerold May and his wife Clyde of Wilson, TX; a sister Winona McMillan and husband John of Fort Sumner, NM along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M. (M.S.T.), Friday, December 15, 2000 from the Chavez Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Sumner with Rev. Coy Brewer of the First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the McMillan family plot, Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Phil Garrett, Charles Baker, Jay Meador, Bob Meador, John McMillan, and Terry McMillan. Visitation will be Friday from 10AM until service time at the funeral home. The family prefers memorials to the charity of one’s choice.
