Manuel Madril, 91, a lifelong Duran, NM resident died Thursday, June 8, 2000 at De Baca General Hospital in Fort Sumner following a sudden illness. Mr. Madrid was a resident of the Pecos Valley Care Center in Fort Sumner. He was born April 9, 1909 in Duran to the home of Pablo Madril and the former Augustina Valencia. Manuel married Graciana Maria Montoya at Willard, NM on November 27, 1927. He began work as a track man for the Southern Pacific Railroad at Carrizozo, NM in 1941 until his retirement in 1973. They made their home at Duran in 1956. Manuel was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and San Jose Society at Duran. He was preceded in death by his wife Graciana “Grace” Madril on February 14, 2000; two sons Paul and Mike Madril; two brothers Joaquin and Guadalupe Madril; two sisters Isabel Chavez and Dolores Garcia. Survivors include a daughter Lucy Samaniego and Jimmy Chavez of Duran, NM; two sons Leroy and Rita Madril of Santa Fe; Catalino Madril and Cora Lopez of Albuquerque; one sister Beatrice Madril of Vaughn and a sister in law Dionicia Madril of Duran. Also surviving are 17 Grandchildren, 28 Great-grandchildren, and 22 Great-Great-grandchildren. Rosary services were held at 7:00 P.M. Sunday, June 11, 2000 from St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Duran. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated from the church at 11:00 A.M., Monday, June 12, 2000 with Father Patrick Duffy officiating. Burial followed at Duran Cemetery. Pallbearers included Anthony Rodriguez, Gil Vigil, Michael Choate, Jimmy Chavez, George Samaniego, and Joe Samaniego. Honorary bearers will include Chris Samaniego, Manuel Garcia, Kirk Ladymon, and Roy Madril. All arrangements entrusted to Chavez Funeral Home of Fort Sumner, New Mexico.
