Nina Rebecca Spencer, 92 a longtime De Baca County resident died Thursday, April 6, 2000 in the De Baca General Hospital following an illness. Miss Spencer was born December 23, 1907 in Daysboro, Kentucky to the home of Morgan and Mary E. Cruey Spencer. She was reared and attended schools at Wolf County, Kentucky and Floyd, NM. She moved with her family to Elida, NM in 1933. In 1938, she moved to the family ranch south of Taiban, NM. She was a resident of the Pecos Valley Care Center in Fort Sumner since May 22, 1988. Miss Nina was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, Earl Cruey Spencer, Willie Marion Spencer, Andrew Campbell Spencer, Martin Luther Spencer, and Woodie Willard Spencer, two sisters Bertha Alice Cussack, and Sarah Ellen Vancleve. Survivors include a sister Eulah Spencer of the Pecos Valley Care Center in Fort Sumner and a sister-in-law Margaret Spencer of the ranch home south of Taiban. Other survivors include numerous nieces, nephews including Dr. Cruey Spencer and family of Kingman, Arizona. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, April 11, 2000 from the Chavez Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Sumner with Loren Quick, Darren Bryan, Jim Price, and Doug Murray officiating. Burial will follow at 12:00 noon in the Cruey Family Plot at Elida Cemetery, Elida, New Mexico. Serving as pallbearers are Glenn Kyle, Clayton Price, Mike Leonhardt, Wilbur Sluder, Jeff Walker, Nelson Rector, and Buddy Taylor. Visitation hours will be Monday, April 10th from 10AM to 6PM at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home in Ft. Sumner, New Mexico.
