Emma Battles

Emma “Cutie” Battles, 76 of House, NM died Friday, March 3, 2000 at De Baca General Hospital following an illness. She was born December 6, 1923 in Cook County, Texas to the home of David Arthor Williams and the former LaVerta Booher. She was reared in west Texas. Emma Married Clyde Battles on August 24, 1946. They made their home at House, NM in 1947 where Emma was a member of the First Baptist Church and the House Quilting Club. She enjoyed quilting and sewing. Emma was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers’ Dutch, Lex, Gene, and Wart Williams, four sisters Tennie Bridges, Nellie, Katie, and Rachel Williams. Survivors include her husband, of 53 years, Clyde Battles of the home in House, NM; one daughter Peggy Sue Tivis and husband Danny of House, NM, two brothers Pete Williams of Asheville, NC, Jack Williams of Melrose, NM, two sisters Mutt Dutton of Friona, TX and Lucille Huddleston of Myra, TX; also surviving are three grandchildren Monty Tivis and Robyn Tivis of Canyon, TX and Trevor Tivis of House. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, March 6, 2000 from the First Baptist Church in House with Rev. Sherman Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the House Community Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ross Sinclair, Charles Franklin, Clifford Franklin, Monty Tivis, Trevor Tivis, and Bill Runyan. Visitation will be Sunday, March 5, 2000 from 1PM to 6PM at the funeral home. The family prefers memorials, in Emma’s memory, to the House Rescue Service, House, New Mexico 88124. All arrangements entrusted to Chavez Funeral Home, 804 N. Fifth Street, Fort Sumner, New Mexico.
