Bill Pena Chavez, 40 a resident of Fort Sumner, NM died Monday, February 28, 2000 at his home. Bill was born February 12, 1960 in Fort Sumner to the home of Sam S. and Charlotte (Pena) Chavez. He was reared and attended school in Albuquerque. He graduated from Manzano High School in1978. Bill worked during and following high school at Bella Vista Restaurant in Cedar Crest. He later worked as a finishing carpenter for different Albuquerque contractors. Bill worked for Ross Aviation for several years until a work related injury in 1986. He made his home in Fort Sumner in 1995. Bill enjoyed reading, target shooting, and for several years during and following school, raised pedigree rabbits. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, his maternal grandfather, and his “Grandma” Petra Pena who died Jan. 25, 2000. Survivors include his parents Sam and Charlotte Chavez of Fort Sumner; a sister Dona Chavez of Albuquerque; maternal grandmother Lourdes Abeyta of Santa Fe, NM, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins other relatives and many friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, March 2, 2000 from the Chavez Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Sumner. Burial will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery.
