Isidro C. Chavez

Isidro C. Chavez, 89 a lifelong Puerto De Luna, NM resident died Friday, January 21, 2005 at his home following an illness. Isidro was born July 16, 1915 in Puerto De Luna to the home of Ricardo Chavez and the former Juanita Carabajal. He was reared and attended school at Puerto De Luna. Isidro Married Petra J. Ortega on May 13, 1947 in Tucumcari, NM. He was a lifelong farmer and cattle rancher, a member of Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church in Puerto De Luna where he served as Mayordomo. He loved to ride horseback, tending to his cattle daily and making chile ristras. Isidro was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Beatrice “Betty” Chavez; a grandson Raul Andrew Chavez; two brothers Reynaldo and Benito Chavez; two sisters, Irene Madrid, and Dolores Lucero Fajardo. Survivors include his wife Petra Chavez of the family home in Puerto De Luna; four sons Richard Chavez and wife Peggy of Puerto De Luna; Leroy Chavez and wife Rose of Santa Rosa; Robert Chavez and wife Charlotte of Roswell, NM; Martin Chavez and Joann Gallegos of Santa Rosa; three daughters Raime Chavez and Red Lyles of Santa Rosa; Mary Ann Clevenger and husband Rusty of Lake of the Ozarks, MO; and Christina Chavez and husband Mike of Clovis, NM; also surviving are 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Rosary services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, January 21, 2005 from Nuestra Senora de Refugio Catholic Church in Puerto de Luna, New Mexico; Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated from the church at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 22, 2005 with Father Riccardo Russo officiating. Burial will follow at El Calvario Cemetery in Puerto de Luna. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren Rebecca Chavez, Rene Torrez, David Chavez, April Clevenger, Don Paul Chavez, Roberta Chavez, and Mark Chavez. Honorary bearers will be his World War II friends, Ignacio Chavez, Anselmo Sanchez, Nestor Garcia, Pelagio Campos, Andy Baca, Walt Eastland, E.M. Lucero, Blas Madrid, Sid Davis and all his many friends.
