Roberta Hazel Reed, 77 a resident of Sylmar, California died unexpectedly Wednesday, July 23, 2003 in Fort Sumner, NM. Roberta was traveling with her daughter and son-in-law from California enroute to Texas and Kansas to visit relatives. She was born November 27, 1925 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. According to family member Roberta may have been 77 years old but she thought and acted as though she was still in her forties. She lived for her family and friends; she was close to every member of her family. Roberta loved to celebrate each and every holiday with her family especially Christmas. Christmas will never be the same without her. She was always there at every grandchild and great grandchild’s birth. Roberta loved boating at Big Bear and the Delta, she loved to travel in the motor home with her family, and she loved shopping at the 99 cent store. Roberta was very artistic; she painted beautiful paintings and made bassinets for some of the great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Reed. Roberta was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Survivors include a son Randy Reed of Sylmar, CA; a daughter and son-in-law Donna and Carl Melnik of Granada Hills, California; four grandchildren, Robbie Reed and wife Roseanne, Tammy Murphy and husband Richard, Rick Melnik, and Vicki Schulhof and husband Eric; six great-grandchildren Channel Lopez, Zach Reed, Melissa Murphy, Brandon Schulhof, Hannah Schulhof, Ricky Birnberg and wife Shannon; and one great-great-grandchild Hunter Robert Melnik expected in December. Also surviving are other relatives and many friends. Visitation will be held from 4PM to 8PM, Monday, July 28, 2003 at Forest Lawn. Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 29, 2003 at Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills, CA. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Local arrangements were under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home 804 N.
