Brigida "Betty" Valverde, age 88, passed away July 22, 2003 at her home following an illness. Betty was born February 4, 1915 in Puerto De Luna to the home of Rosendo and Romana Chavez Madrid. She was reared in Puerto de Luna. Betty married Andres Valverde in 1958 in Los Angeles, CA. They made thier home in Santa Rosa in 1988. Betty was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church where she was active in the Sacred Heart Club and Las Hijas de Maria (50's plus) and was also a member of the Campos Senior Citizens. Betty loved to travel and dance and was an excellent seamstress. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Andres, her brothers Policarpio Madrid and Toribio Madrid, her sisters Vicenta Salazar and Dominga Dodge. Survivors include her children Christian Madrid of Norwalk, CA, Pancha Chavez of Santa Rosa and Teresa Potter of Tustin, CA. Also surviving are her brothers Escolastico Madrid of Oakland, CA and Blas Madrid and wife Josie of Santa Rosa, 8 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren 1 great great grandchild, numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends and relatives. Rosary services will be conducted on Thursday evening, July 24, at 7:00 from St. Rose of Lima Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 25 at 10:00 am also from St. Rose of Lima Church with Father Nick Nichols officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Joseph Cemetery. Serving as Pallbearers will be Robert Chavez, Christopher Madrid, Horacio Madrid, Victor Salazar, Greg Madrid and Domingo Dodge. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be Cecilio Page, Steve Chavez, Mike Chavez, Antonio Dodge and Andres Chavez. All services are entrusted to the Chavez Funeral Home of Santa Rosa.
