Nina Elizabeth Walraven, 85 a longtime Fort Sumner, NM resident died Tuesday, August 26, 2003 in Fort Sumner following an illness. Nina was born June 12, 1918 in Plainview, TX to the home of Richard Bernie Long and the former Elizabeth Bracken. She attended Fort Sumner Public Schools. Nina worked as a waitress for many years, she also worked for Wertheim Department Store. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fort Sumner. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who will be dearly missed by her family. Nina was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Fowler Walraven ; a daughter Jean Walraven in1997; an infant daughter Peggy Jolene Walraven; and a sister Mavanee Bryan in 2002. Survivors include a son Jack Walraven and wife Sarah of Fort Sumner; a daughter JoAnn Crandell and husband Howard of Strausberg, CO; three brothers Deral Long and wife Pat of Portales, NM; Delbert Long of Fort Sumner, NM; Gene Long of Decatur, Illinois; a sister Faye Thomas and husband Hank of Lacon, Illinois; also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 5 Great-great grandchildren along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, August 30, 2003 from the Chavez Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Sumner, NM with Dan Craig officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot, Fort Sumner Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 1PM to 6PM at the funeral home.
