Jarrod Mike Barfield, 22 a resident of Texico, NM died Thursday, November 9, 2000 in an automobile accident near Moriarty, NM. Jarrod was born January 23, 1978 in Fort Sumner to the home of James Knox III (J.K.) and Sherry Arlene (Cortese) Barfield. He was reared and attended school at Texico, graduating in 1996. He was manager for the football and basketball teams. Jarrod attended the Texico Baptist Church. He enjoyed dancing. Jarrod was a loving son, brother, and uncle. He was a person that cared and looked out for his friends and co-workers. Jarrod managed the Clovis Inn, for two years, before moving to Albuquerque in June of this year. Jarrod was employed as a medical equipment supervisor for McKesson Medical Management. He also worked at Macy’s Department store. Jarrod was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, James Knox II and Thelma Barfield. Survivors include his parents James Knox III and Sherry Barfield of Texico; a sister Christi Edwards and husband Joel of Clovis; a brother James Knox IV and wife Lori Barfield of Flagstaff, AZ. Three nieces and Three nephews Crystal Edwards, Jennifer Edwards, Jake Barfield, Adam Barfield of Clovis, Sean Heaton and Ashlee Heaton of Flagstaff, AZ. Maternal grandparents Mike and Dorothy Cortese of Albuquerque; several uncles and aunts including DeLynn and Eddie Ratliff of Albuquerque; Mike Cortese and Regina Peek of Pflugerville, TX; Gerald Don and LouAnn Cortese of Fort Sumner; Glen and Glenn “Tootsie” Hromas of Amarillo, TX. Also surviving are numerous cousins, other relatives and many friends. Visitation will be Sunday from 1PM to 6PM and Monday from 10AM until 12Noon at the funeral home. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, November 13, 2000 from the First Baptist Church in Fort Sumner with Rev. Jim Peabody officiating. Burial will follow in the Cortese family plot, Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Knox Cortese, Joe Don Cortese, Greg Hromas, Brent Ratliff, Wes Gant, John Odegard, Darin Ratliff, Doug Beevers. Honorary bearers will be all his friends and the Texico High School Class of 1996. The family prefers memorials in Jarrod’s memory to the Baptist Children’s Home. All arrangements are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home in Fort Sumner.
