Mamie Lee Cunningham, age 102 of Fort Sumner, NM died Tuesday, August 12, 2003 at Laurel Ridge Healthcare in Clovis, NM. Mamie was born August 7, 1901 in Milan, Tennessee to Eric and Amanda Bradshaw Thacker. She married James L. Cunningham on January 3, 1923 in Wellston, Oklahoma, they made their home in Fort Sumner in 1945. Mamie became a Christian as a teenager and lived a long Christian life. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James on June 16, 1973, a daughter Inez Brockman on June 26, 2003, one brother Bill Pence, and three sisters, Flora Brady, Cleda Brookey, and Opel Paye. She is survived by a daughter Maxine Mayhon of Clovis, NM; one brother Hershel Pence of Hugo, Oklahoma, one sister Essie Smith of Houston, Texas; five grandchildren, Linda Hopkins, Jim Brockman, Joe Brockman, Mike Brockman, and Ed Brockman all of California; ten Great-grandchildren and six Great-great-grandchildren. Private services were held at 9:00 A.M., Thursday, August 14, 2003 from Chavez Funeral Home with Rev. Anna Teeter officiating, burial followed in the Cunningham Family plot, Fort Sumner Cemetery.
