Martina G. Lucero, 73 of Fort Sumner, NM died Saturday, September 27, 2003 at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis, NM following an illness. Martina was born September 15, 1930 in Fort Sumner, NM to the home of Merejildo Garcia and the former Francesquita Aragon. Martina attended school at Fort Sumner. Martina worked for many years in the restaurant business, she worked as a waitress and cook and later owned and operated restaurants in Fort Sumner. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles; a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, and a lifelong member of St. Anthony Catholic Church. Martina enjoyed playing bingo, lotto and her visits to the casinos. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers Merejildo Garcia Jr., Mariano Garcia, two sisters Carmen Salguero and Nicolasa Garcia. Survivors include five sons Nick Lucero, Agapito Lucero (and wife Margaret), Ruben Lucero, Simon Lucero (and wife Tammy) all of Fort Sumner, Gabe Lucero (and wife Sis) of Grand Junction, CO; two daughters Mary Felipa Lucero of Fort Sumner and Teresa Marshall (and husband Keith) of Las Cruces, NM; one brother Rumaldo Garcia (and wife Jo) of Hereford, TX and a sister Beatrice Pena of Lubbock, TX. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and 14 Great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Cremation has taken place. Rosary services will be held at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 30, 2003 from St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner; a funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 1, 2003 from the church with Father Sotero A. Sena officiating.
