Fred Henry Priest, 82 of Lubbock, TX died Monday, August 25, 2003 following an illness. Fred was born September 1, 1920 in Mills County, TX to the home of G.D. Priest and the former Florence Carter. Fred Married Gloria Brothers on October 23, 1982. Fred was a mechanic and owned and operated a garage in Fort Sumner for many years across from the county courthouse. He later moved his business to the Fort Sumner Valley where he constructed a garage using railroad boxcar tops. Fred was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fort Sumner, NM. He retired in 1996. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1942-1945. Fred made his home in Seagraves, TX before moving to Fort Sumner in 1975; following his retirement he made his home in Lubbock in 1999. He was a resident of Lakeside Rehabilitation and Care Center and Bender Terrace Care Center. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son David Priest in 1998; one brother, George Priest in 1971; five sisters Velma Ward 1985; Syble McKenzie in 1993; Ugie Stephens in 1995; Lillie Mae Jones in 1998; and Cleo Royal in 2001. Survivors include his wife Goria Priest of Lubbock, TX; two sons Wendell Priest of Floresville, TX; Slugger Priest and wife Monica of Sundown, TX; two daughters Diane Marsh of Floresville, TX; and DeeDee Priest of Lubbock, TX; two sisters Lucille Roach and Dealva Windham of Brownwood, TX; and a brother LeeRoy Wagenfuehr of Floresville, TX; three grandchildren Cecil Todd Proctor of Plano, TX; Trevor Priest and Chaley Priest of Sundown, TX; one Great-grandchild Marley Proctor of San Diego, CA. along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, many friends, and young people who unofficially adopted him. Cremation has taken place, A memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, August 29, 2003 from the First Baptist Church in Fort Sumner with Rick Garner, Robin Simmons, and Rev. Coy Brewer officiating. The family prefers memorials to the Fort Sumner Emergency Medical Services P.O. Box 180; Fort Sumner, NM 88119 in memory of Fred Priest.
