Jose Rumaldo Maestas

Jose Rumaldo Maestas, age 65, passed away January 1, 2005. Jose was born June 21, 1939 in Anton Chico, NM to the home of Juan and Estella Lucero Maestas. He was reared and attended schools in Anton Chico. Jose served in the United States Army from 1962 through 1964 and received the Good Conduct Medal and Sharpshooter Badge. He married Ludena Salazar on December 7, 1968 at San Felipe De Neri Catholic Church in Albuquerque. Jose worked as an Iron Worker, Sheepherder and owned his own business, the Maestas Lounge in Dilia, NM. He loved ranching and his race horses. Jose was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Anton Chico, he served as Treasurer for the Dilia Water Association and was a volunteer firefighter. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers; Leroy Maestas, Richard Maestas, sister; Gayle Lueras, brother's in law; Adam Salazar, Frank Salazar, Ralph Lueras, and father in law; Manuel Salazar. Survivors include his wife Ludena Maestas of the family home in Dilia, his sons; Romie Maestas and wife Cassandra of Santa Rosa, Marvin Maestas and wife Marie of Tome, NM and Anthony Maestas of Dilia, grandchildren; Pamela Ann Roybal, Dominique Roybal, Felisha Gonzalez, Carolina Maestas and Alejandro Maestas. Also surviving are his brothers and sisters; Lillie Perea of Anton Chico, Clara Williams of Wyoming, Juanito Maestas of Anton Chico; Marcella Aragon of Anton Chico, Alfred Maestas and wife Kathy of Albuquerqe, Livie Maestas of Bosque Farms, Christy Maestas of Albuquerque and Yolanda Maestas of South Dakota, Mother in Law; Trudy Salazar of Grants. Sister's in law Dorothy Garcia and husband Rudy of Anton Chico, Debie Molina and husband Johnny of Grants and Niomi Rodarte and husband Joey of Cubero along with numerous nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends. Rosary services will be held on Thursday, January 6, 2005 at 7:00 from St. Joseph Catholic Church in Anton Chico. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 7, 2005 at 11:00 am from St. Joseph Church with Father Patrick Duffy Officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Anton Chico. Pallbearers will be Vince Armijo, Joseph Perea, James Aragon, Brian Maestas, Alfred Maestas, Kevin Lueras and Joshua Maestas. Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Montano, Eric Molina, Alejandro Maestas, Rudy Garcia, Nazario Maestas and Gerald Maestas.
