Eugene "Geno" Chavez

Eugene Ernesto "Geno" Chavez, Jr., age 15, passsed away September 1, 2002 in Santa Rosa. Geno was born September 16, 1986 in Las Vegas, NM to the home of Eugene Chavez and Alberta Saiz. He had just started his sophmore year at Santa Rosa High School. Geno had a love for sports. While in Middle School he participated in track and football and in High School he participated in baseball and basketball. He was proud to be playing for the Santa Rosa Fighting Lions. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandfather Abel Saiz, Jr., and his great grandparents Jose Inez Chavez, Juan and Agneda Montoya and Jose Reyes Tapia. Survivors include his parents Gene and Alberta, his sister Lanette Chavez of Albuquerque, his brothers Delano Chavez and Reuben Chavez of Santa Rosa and his special nephew Izaiah Chavez, maternal grandmother Sally Saiz of Santa Rosa, Paternal grandparents Ernesto and Evelyn Chavez of Juan de Dios, NM, maternal great grandmother Valeria Tapia of Santa Rosa and Paternal Great Grandmother Erlinda Chavez of Clovis. Also surviving are numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, classmates and friends. Rosary services will be held on Thursday evening at 7:00 from St. Rose of Lima Church in Santa Rosa. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday morning at 10:00 from the Santa Rosa High School Gymnasium with Father Stephen Schultz officiating.. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Santa Rosa. Serving as Pallbearers will be Leo Chavez, Jr., Brian Chavez, Rico Blea, Miguel Chavez, Santiago Chavez, Guillermo Chavez, Jesse Chavez and Christopher Fuentes. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be the Santa Rosa High School Class of 2005, Izaiah Chavez, Lemy Hing, Ryan Serrano, Brett Campos, Michael Salazar and all his cousins and friends.
