Charlotte Mae (Bores) Mayhon, 74 a retired Fort Sumner businesswoman died Thursday, January 20, 2000 in the De Baca General Hospital following an extended illness. Mrs. Mayhon was born November 29, 1925 in Clarendon, Texas to the home of Jesse Lee McDonald and the former Mary Amanda Morgan. She moved to Fort Sumner as a teenager where she attended school. Charlotte served during World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps. She married Robert Walter Bores in 1945 at Fort Sumner. Charlotte made her home in Sandusky, Ohio for several years where she owned and operated two beauty shops. Following her husband’s death in 1978 she moved to Fort Sumner where she purchased and operated the Black Angus Lounge until her retirement in 1990. She married Noel Mayhon in Fort Sumner on May 15, 1993. Charlotte was a loving wife, mother, and sister who enjoyed gardening, baking, and canning. She was a member of the V.F.W., D.A.V., AMVETS, Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, and the Eagles of Fort Sumner. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Walter Bores in 1978; and a sister Jessie Lee Moore on Nov. 7, 1997. Survivors include her husband Noel Mayhon of the home in Fort Sumner; two daughters Jessie Kolb and husband Fred of Orlando, Florida; Roberta Scalia and husband James of Sandusky, Ohio; one son Dennis Robert Bores and wife Lori of Pine, Arizona, a step-daughter Yavonne Mayhon of Los Lunas, NM. Other survivors include five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, a brother Jim McDonald of Ione, Washington; two sisters Eileen Hoglang of Hemet, CA; and Naomi Grange of Pueblo, Colorado. Rosary services will be held at 9:30 A.M. Monday, January 24, 2000 with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:00 A.M. from St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner. Father Sotero A. Sena will officiate. Burial will follow at Fort Sumner Cemetery. All arrangements entrusted to Chavez Funeral Home in Fort Sumner, New Mexico.
