Irene Lucero Madrid, 82 a lifelong Fort Sumner resident died Sunday, March 9, 2008 in Albuqueque following an illness. Irene was born December 6, 1925 in Fort Sumner, one of eleven children born to the home of Alfredo and Camila (Lopez) Lucero. She was raised and attended schools in Fort Sumner. Irene married Frank Madrid on November 26, 1945 in Fort Sumner. She was a lifelong member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Fort Sumner. Irene was preceded in death by her husband Frank Madrid on March 11, 1995; her parents; two sisters Besenta Aragon and Santana Coronado; six brothers Pilar, Audon, Floyde, Alfredo, Jimmy and Frank Lucero. She is survived by three sons Thomas L Madrid and wife Barbara of Rio Rancho, NM; Alfred Madrid and wife Mary of Albuquerque; Ernest Madrid and wife Veronica of Rio Rancho; two sisters Jessie Martinez of Rio Rancho, NM and Rebecca Lopez of Fort Sumner; one brother Jake Lucero and wife Josephine of Fort Sumner. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren along with a sister-in-law Romana Lucero of Fort Sumner. Rosary services will be held at 7:00 pm Tuesday, March 11, 2008 from the Chavez Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Sumner; a second rosary will be held at 7:00 pm, Wednesday, March 12, 2008 from St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 am Thursday, March 13, 2008 from St. Anthony Parish with Father Steve Sanchez officiating. Burial will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Frank Madrid, Jacob Garcia, Daniel Martinez, Pat Lopez, Manuel Lucero and Ruben Lucero. Arrangements are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home in Fort Sumner.
