Rafelita S. Casaus, 96 a lifelong De Baca County resident died Wednesday, August 2, 2000 in the De Baca General hospital following a sudden illness. Mrs. Casaus was born August 8, 1903 in Salado, De Baca County, New Mexico to the home of Adolfo and Celsa (Casaus) Sena. She was reared and attended school at Guadalupe, NM. She married Coldo Casaus at Guadalupe on November 23, 1922. Mrs. Casaus was a resident of the Pecos Valley Care Center in Fort Sumner where she was active in Senior Olympics. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner and a member of the Sacred Heart Alter Society. She was preceded in death by her husband Coldo Casaus in 1955, a son Tony Casaus in 1988 and a brother Teodoro Casaus. Survivors include a daughter Bessie Aragon of Albuquerque; four sons, Ernest Casaus and wife Crusita, Gilbert “Chon” Casaus and wife Ramona of Albuquerque; Ruben Casaus and wife Carmen of Tucumcari; and Augustine Casaus and wife Helen of Clovis. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren, 20 Great-grandchildren, and 4 Great-great-grandchildren along with a host of other relatives and many friends. Rosary services will be held at 7:00 P.M. Friday, August 4, 2000 from St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from the church at 9:00 A.M. Saturday, August 5, 2000 with Father Sotero A. Sena officiating. Burial will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery. Pallbearers are grandsons Ronnie Casaus, Gary Casaus, Robert Casaus, Ernie Casaus, Jr., A.O. Casaus, and B.J. Casaus. Honorary bearers include Sam Sena, Michael Sena, the staff and residents of the Pecos Valley Care Center along with all her friends and family.
