LaHonda Fox, 70 of Fort Sumner, NM died Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at Roosevelt General Hospital in Portales following an illness. She was born March 30, 1936 in Big Square, Texas. She attended school in Sacramento, CA and Floyd, NM. LaHonda worked as a bookkeeper for several years at Atlas Van Lines and J.D.Ray Trucking Company in Portales. She made her home in Fort Sumner in 1969 where she worked as a bookkeeper for Bessie Boren at the Rio Pecos Truck Stop. LaHonda served as De Baca County Treasurer and Deputy Treasurer for over 32 years retiring in June 2005. She was a member of Rebekah’s, Fraternal Order of Eagles, De Baca County 4-H Board, Old Fort Days Rodeo Committee, Valley Community House Board, and served two terms as the Association of Counties Treasurers Affiliate. She enjoyed reading and working with the youth of De Baca County. She was preceded in death by her parents Earl and Bobbye Cross. Survivors include three children, a son Richard Andes and wife Sondra of Clovis; two daughters Roberta Andes of Portales, NM and Jimmie Dee Fox of Fort Sumner; a sister Carolyn Beverage of Farwell, TX; two grandsons Shane Andes and wife Chris of White Sulphur Springs, MT; and Cole Andes of Clovis; three great-grandchildren Faith Churchill, Bryce Churchill and Jorden Andes all of Montana. Also surviving is a great nephew she raised Tel Montoya of Fort Sumner. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, March 23, 2007 from the First Baptist Church in Fort Sumner with Rev. Coy Brewer officiating. Burial will follow at 4:00 PM from the Portales Cemetery, Portales, New Mexico. Pallbearers will include Clay Labrier, Shane Andes, Cole Andes, Tel Montoya, Colt Banister, Will Banister, Cade Beverage, and Gary Beverage. Honorary bearers will include all her friends and relatives and the youth of De Baca County. Arrangements are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home, 804 N. Fifth Street; Fort Sumner, New Mexico.
