Thelma Anderson, 89 a longtime Roswell, NM resident died Sunday, June 13, 2004 at Rio Rancho Nursing Home. She was born August 3, 1914 in Commanche, Texas to the home of George C. Anderson and the former Elizabeth C. Gleaton. Thelma attended school at Littlefield, TX where she graduated in 1933. She made her home in Roswell for over 40 years where she worked as a cosmetician for many years at Platt Drug. Thelma was preceded in death by her parents; one sister L.G. Sinclair and two brothers M.J. Anderson and Carl Anderson. Survivors include one son Dan Smith and wife Jeanette of Rio Rancho, NM; two brothers Joe Anderson of Fort Sumner and George Douglas Anderson of Gaston, Indiana; eight sisters Eva Teal of Odessa, TX; Jewel Sasser of Clovis, NM; Mae Del Hodge, Dorothy Neuman, Frances Nahlovsky, and Blanche Boyd all of Fort Sumner; Fern Hay of Milnesand, NM; and Wanda Mechnig of Roswell, NM. Also surviving are five grandchildren; Mary Beth Weeks and husband Jake; Paul Smith, Ben Smith, Sarah Smith, and Rebecca Smith along with a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends. Visitation will be Tuesday from 1PM to 6PM at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 16, 2004 from the Chavez Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Sumner with Dan Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Anderson family plot, Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren and nephews. Memorial Contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
