Alejandro V. Marez

Alejandro V. Marez, age 78, of Encino, NM passed away Saturday, February 1, 2003 in Albuquerque, NM following an illness. Alejandro was born June 6, 1924 in Deramadero, NM to the home of Luis and Aurelia Velasquez Marez. He was reared and attended schools in Encino. Alejandro served in the United States Army as a Military Policeman. Following his honorable discharge Alejandro worked for several ranches in the Encino area. He married Isabel Montano on April 26, 1943 in Vaughn, NM. Alejandro also worked for the Railroad and retired from the New Mexico State Highway Department as a Maintenance Supervisor in 1982 after 26 years of service. He enjoyed caring for his livestock, fishing, hunting and being horseback. Alejandro was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Encino. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Isabel, three brothers Luis Marez, Marcos Marez, Jacobo Marez, three sisters Rosa Montoya, Francis Gonzalez and Guadalupe Marez. Survivors include his children, Leandro Marez and wife Viola of Moriarty, Jose Alejandro Marez, Jr. and wife Josie of Albuquerque, Frank G. Marez and wife Viola of Moriarty, Richard Marez and wife Eloisa of Albuquerque, Jose Bonifacio Marez and wife Esther of Magdalena, Clario D. Marez and wife Norma of Sedillo Hill, Roberta Marez of Albuquerque and Robert "Bobby" Marez of Encino. Also surviving are three sisters Julia Martinez of Encino, Dulcinea Garcia and husband Ralph of Willard and Lala Apodaca of Clovis, 20 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends. Rosary services will be conducted on Monday evening at 7:00 from Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Encino. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 4, 2003 at 11:00 from Our Lady of Guadalupe Church with Father John Jasinski Celebrant of the Mass. Burial will follow in the family plot at the Encino Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Greg Marez, Michael Marez, Adrian Marez, Clario Marez, Jr., Luisa Marez, Christell Marez, Matthew Marez and Jerome Marez. Honorary Pallbearers will be his grandchildren and great grandchildren and Raymond Gallegos. All services are entrusted to the Chavez Funeral Home, 923 South 3rd St., Santa Rosa, NM (505)472-3369.
