Nola Joyce Gammill, 64 a lifelong Fort Sumner resident died Tuesday, March 25, 2003 at he son’s home in Los Lunas, NM following an illness. Nola was born July 15, 1938 in Fort Sumner, the daughter of Lester H. Propps and the former Frances Ella Wilson. She attended and graduated from Fort Sumner Public School. She married Calvin Gammill on November 4, 1956 in Fort Sumner. Nola and Calvin farmed and ranched in the Fort Sumner Valley. Nola was the wife of a Volunteer Firefighter for over 40 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fort Sumner, and Merry Homemakers. Nola enjoyed sewing, knitting, crossword puzzles, arts and crafts especially working with plastic canvas. She loved to read, and listen to 50’s music. Nola was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Gammill on April 9, 2001; two infant brothers Donald Ray and Clyde Owen; and her parents. Survivors include two children, Wayland Gammill and wife Wanda of Los Lunas, NM; April Khosrowabadi and husband Reza of Los Angeles, California; three grandchildren Linda and Juliet Khosrowabadi of Los Angeles, CA; and Victoria Gammill of Los Lunas, NM. Also surviving are two sisters Leona Wood of Fort Sumner and Patsy Gomez of Portales; three brothers Gary Propps, Dale Propps, and V.E. Propps all of Fort Sumner along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 27th, from the Chavez Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Sumner, NM with Sister Anna Teeter officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers will be members of the Village of Fort Sumner Fire Department George Gonzales, Juan Chavez, Bill Wertheim, David Vansickle, Leo Sena and Louie Gallegos. Honorary pallbearers will be Cecil West, John McMillan, Robert Barkley, Tommy Roybal, Bobby Russ, Pablo Chavez, and Gordon Morris.
