Grace E. Sanford

Grace E. Sanford, 94, went home to be with the Lord on January 16th 2004, in Odessa, Texas, where she resided for the last five years to be near her son and family. Grace was born July 19, 1909 in Archer County, Texas to Jessie Peters and Essie Peters. She spent her early years near Ft. Sumner, New Mexico and Lamesa, Texas where she went to school. She married Charles W. Sanford on May 10, 1931 in Santa Rosa, New Mexico where she lived for 70 years. Besides being a housewife and raising two sons, Robert and Charles Sanford, Grace was very active in the First United Methodist Church where she loved singing special music and was a member of the choir. She was a long time member of the Eastern Star where she served as Worthy Matron. Her husband Charles owned and operated the Santa Rosa Lumber and Builders Supply. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles W. Sanford Sr. in 1986; parents, Jessie Peters and Essie Peters Renfroe; step father Matt Renfroe; and by her son Charles W. Sanford Jr. and his wife Dale in1976. Surviving relatives include one son, Robert Sanford and his wife Sally of Odessa; six grandchildren - Marka Otoski and her husband David of Albuquerque N.M.; Lisa Watkins and her husband Jerry of Dallas Tex.; Russell Sanford and his wife Vangie of Santa Rosa N.M.; Beverly Hall and her husband Wayne of Odessa Tex.; Bob Sanford and his wife Wendy of California; and Brenda Mowry of Ft Stockton Tex. She is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren; one brother Grady Peters of San Angelo Tex.; one niece Beverly Robertson and husband Donald of Midland Tex; two nephews Braxton Peters of Baltimore Md.; and Gene Gray and wife Letha of Dallas Tex.. Services will be at the Santa Rosa First United Methodist Church on January19th at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Andy Husted and Reverend John Kerry officiating . Burial will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Santa Rosa First United Methodist Church.
