Gregorita Lily Lopez

Gregorita “Lily” Griego Lopez, 86 a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend died Monday, September 10, 2001 at her home in Fort Sumner following an illness. Gregorita was born May 13, 1915 in La Garita, San Miguel County to the home of Justo Griego and the former Gertrudes Lopez. She married Maximiliano Lopez on December 2, 1935 in Santa Rosa. Lily was a member of the St. Anthony Catholic Church and the Altar Society. She was preceded in death by her husband Maxiliano Lopez; six brothers, Bernardo, Marcos, Justo, Max, Abelino, and Alfonso V. Griego; two sisters Josefita Garcia and Maria Uroiste; two grandsons Maxiliano “Milo” Lopez III and Paul Gallegos; her parents and three children Juanito, Navora, and Albaro Lopez. Survivors include eight daughters Esther Segura and husband Luciano of Roswell, NM; Gertrude Preece of Las Cruces, NM; Rita Gallegos and husband Greg of Fort Sumner; Frances Potts and husband Tommy of Tipton, Oklahoma; Maria “LaLa” Garcia of Fort Sumner; Betty Jo Montalvo of Las Cruces, NM; Velen Anthony and husband Bill of Albuquerque; Yolanda Knodle and husband Mark of Las Cruces, NM; four sons Isaac Lopez and wife Sally of Las Cruces, NM; Justo Lopez of Fort Sumner; Max Lopez and wife Rita of Dallas, TX; Richard Lopez of Fort Sumner; and a grandson she raised, Bobby Ray Lopez and wife Sharon of Albuquerque, NM. Also surviving is one sister Eloisa Lopez of Fort Sumner, 40 grandchildren, 64 great-grandchildren, and 2 Great-great-grandchildren along with a host of other relatives and many friends. Visitation will be held at the family home, 616 McGee in Fort Sumner. A Wake service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday evening at the family home. A Rosary service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday from St. Anthony Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Anthony’s on Thursday, Sept. 13, 2001 at 10:00 A.M. with Father Stephen Schultz, celebrant of the Mass. Burial will follow at Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Jose Feliz Lopez, Samuel Preece, Scotty Segura, Johnny Gallegos, Brian Potts, and Bobby Lopez. All arrangements are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home in Fort Sumner.
