Benjamin Franklin Good Jr. 77, a longtime De Baca County rancher died Wednesday, December 26, 2001 at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, TX. Ben was born February 28, 1924 in Roswell, NM the son of Benjamin Franklin Good and Dora Ruth Howell. He was reared and attended school at Buchanan and Fort Sumner. He moved to the ranch south of Yeso in 1929. Ben married Jeanne Burson on January 16, 1942 at Portales, New Mexico. Ben was a member of Mount Moriah Chapter #39 of Eastern Star, Mount Moriah Lodge #54 AF&AM, where he served as Past Master, Balut Abyad Shrine, and Santa Fe Scottish Rite. He served as a De Baca County Commissioner, a past Fort Sumner School Board member, member of NM Cattle Growers Assn., NM Quarter Horse Assn., and Farmers Home Administration Board. He enjoyed cattle ranching and horses. He was a longtime member of the Fort Sumner Church of Christ. Ben was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Ben was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister Betty Jo Luck. Survivors include his wife Jeanne Good of the family home south of Yeso; three daughters Bennie Jeanne Crist and husband Clay of Fort Sumner; Kathy Jo Longbrake and husband Terry of Brownfield, Texas; Terri Lynn Tucker and husband Donny of Lubbock, TX; five grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren also survive along with one sister Mary Catherine Peatchman of El Paso, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 29, 2001 from the Fort Sumner Church of Christ with Otho Rogers and Gary Good officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Clay Crist, Terry Longbrake, Donny Tucker, Cary Crist, John Crist, Lynney Tucker, Terrance Longbrake, and Casey Crist. Visitation will be Friday from 10am to 6pm at the funeral home. The family prefers memorials to the Christian Children’s Home 1356 NM 236, Portales, NM 88130; the Fort Sumner Cemetery Assn. P.O. Box 180, Fort Sumner, New Mexico 88119, or the charity of one’s choice. All arrangements are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home, 804 N. fifth Street, Fort Sumner, NM.
