Tony Garcia, 67 died Thursday, March 28, 2002 in Albuquerque. He was born February 24, 1935 in Fort Sumner to the home of Seferino and Annie (Chavez) Garcia. He was reared and attended Fort Sumner Public Schools where he lettered throughout high school in Football, Basketball, and held a state record in the javelin throw. He graduated in 1954. Tony was an honorably discharged Army Veteran. He made his home in Albuquerque for many years where he was employed by Sandia Labs. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. Tony was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include three sons Mark, Vincent, and Dino; five sisters Fay Gallegos and husband Joe; Jo Atler; Cruz Casaus and husband Ernesto; Rosie Lee Cata and husband Don; Helen Aragon and husband Ernest; one brother Harold Garcia all of Albuquerque. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. Rosary services were held in Albuquerque on April 3, 2002. Mass of Christian burial was celebrated from St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner with Father Stephen Schultz, celebrant of the Mass. Burial with military honors provided by Cannon Air Force Base followed at Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers were Roque Gallegos, Jake Gallegos, Ronnie Casaus, Michael Garcia, Bill Gallegos, and Robert Casaus. Honorary bearer was his brother Harold Garcia. Local arrangements were under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home in Fort Sumner, New Mexico.
