Myrtle Lee Howard, 93 a resident of Lubbock, TX since 1995 died Wednesday, May 22, 2002 at Covenant Medical Center following an illness. Myrtle was born July 2, 1908 in Peacock, Texas. She was the eldest of twelve children born to the home of Alfred Lee Peacock and the former Lala E. Matthews. She married Lowell A. Howard on March 17, 1934 at Muleshoe, Texas. Lowell and Myrtle managed the Leftwich Ranch south of Fort Sumner, NM for 47 years. They were longtime faithful members of the Fort Sumner Church of Christ. Myrtle enjoyed quilting and caring for her cats. Following their retirement in 1988 they made their home in Clovis, NM. Lowell preceded her in death on August 14, 1991. Myrtle moved to Lubbock to be near her family in 1995. She was preceded in death by her husband Lowell Howard in 1991, two sons Bobby Howard in 1951, Lowell Douglas Howard in 1984 and eleven brothers and sisters. Survivors include two grandsons Scott and Rhonda Howard; Randy and Kristi Howard of Lubbock, TX, their mother Patsy McClung and husband Woodie, and five great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews. The family prefers memorials to the Children’s Home of Lubbock, TX. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 P.M. (M.S.T.) Friday, May 24, 2002 in the Garden of Love section of Fort Sumner Cemetery with Mr. Woodie McClung officiating. All arrangements are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home in Fort Sumner, New Mexico.
