Harold Green, born February 27, 1924 to the home of Royal Banks and Nettie Lee Brock Green near Hamlin, Jones County, Texas. He joined older brothers James and Bill in the family home. He and his brothers attended schools at Wise Chapel #55 adm when Harold finished the 8th grade, he stayed home to help the family business, farming and ranching. In 1940 he enlisted in the Army and served in Battery C 44th Field Artillery Battalion. His tour of duty included Normandy France, Rhineland, Central Europe, Ardennes, GO 33 WD45. During this period of time he was awarded the EAME Campaign Medal with 5 bronze stars, Bronze Star Medal, GO 62 HQ 4th Infnatry Div, Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal and Purple Heart. He was a Reconnaissance Sergeant First Class (T) and qualified as a Marksman. He was seperated at Fort Sam Houston on July 2, 1945 and returned to the family home where he started his own ranching business. Uncle Sam wasn't through with him and during the 1950's he returned to the service where he served as a Cannoneer with the B Battery 424th FA Battalion and received the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, First Clasp to Good Conduct Medal and Overseas Bar. He was discharged Janary 25, 1955. Instead of returning to Texas he arrived in Albuquerque, New Mexico where he worked as a driver for P & S Ambulance Service. He met Carolyn Smith and they wed in January 1958 at First Presbyterian Church in Albuquerque. They moved to Santa Fe where he was employed with Craig Construction,then he had the opportunity to return to ranching and farming and they made their home in Bovina and Wildorado, Texas. They returned to Santa Fe where they purchased their first home and Harold worked for Cotton Butane as a transport driver then returned to Craig Construction and Hartzhorn Lathe and Plaster. In addition to residential construction, he worked on the State Capitol Building, and Denver International Airport. By this time their family had increased with the arrival of son Andrew and daughter Debra. He didn't want to be away from his family so they moved to Estancia, NM where he was employed as manager for LP Gas Company. While at Estancia he served as President of Estancia Valley Quarter Horse Breeder's Association. He worked with young people in horse showmanship and competitive events such as barrel racing. When LP Gas Company sold, they move to Farmington, NM where he worked for Arrow Gas Company as manager, then to Graves Butane as a truck driver and finally with Ikard Griffen as Manager and retired from the gas business in 1992. All through their married life home and family were the Number One priorities and they joined in encouraging their children in competitive events as well as making certain they enjoyed family activities. Fishing trips were eagerly anticipated during the summer and included many trips to Lake Powell with camping at the lake edge in tents. Water skiing was a given and Harold spent many hours pulling his children and their friends around the lakes. After the children were away from home Harold and Carolyn renewed their interest in square dancing and then they purchased a motor home which opened a whole other world. Many trips around the Southwest as well as Mexico, Candada and Alaska and since they were seldom home in Farmington, they sold their home. Eventually they arrived in Santa Rosa, Carolyn's family home and since there was a need to help with the family they established residence in what is now known as Cedervale Subdivision. They continued their fishing expeditions and expanded to include Sam Rayburn, in Texas, Oahu in South Dakota, and Portage in Saslatchewan. They continued their travels until health issues limited their activities. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Royal Banks and Nettie Lee, 2 brothers James and Bill, sister in law Lillah Mae Green and nephew Stephen Green. He is survived by his wife of 46 years Carolyn of the family home, son Andrew of Castle Rock, CO, daughter Debra K. and husband Mike Karper and 2 grandsons, Josh and Aaron all of Colorado Springs, CO, sister in law Margie Green of Lubbock; niece Susan and husband Tim Clifford and great nephews Stephen and Christopher of Dallas, and nephew Roy Clay Green of Lubbock. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, December 11, 2004, at 11:00 am from the First United Methodist Church in Santa Rosa. All services are entrusted to the Chavez Funeral Home of Santa Rosa.
