Madelyne Bridges Kennedy

November 17, 1922 — July 27, 2002

Madelyne B. Kennedy, 79 a longtime Fort Sumner, NM resident died Saturday, July 27, 2002 in the Pecos Valley Care Center following an illness. “Matt” as she was affectionately known to her family and friends was born November 17, 1922 in Blue Ridge, Georgia to the home of William Clark Bridges and the former Ella Edmondson. She was reared and attended school at Benton, TN. She was a homemaker and made her home in Fort Sumner in 1952, where she was a member of the Fort Sumner Church of Christ since 1989. Madelyne was preceded in death by her first husband Walter Charles Hart in 1968; her parents; three brothers Romie Bridges, Windell Bridges Sr., C.W. Bridges and one sister Mae Huffman. Survivors include her husband Myrl Kennedy of Fort Sumner, NM; a daughter Mary Frances Mendoza and husband Alex of Dallas, TX; a step-son Fred Kennedy and wife Charolette of Lovington, NM; three sisters Carolyn Gibbs of LeHigh Acres, FL; Willie Fish of House, NM; and Bertee Gaylard of Georgia; two brothers L.B. Bridges of Benton, TN; and William Clark Bridges of Spearman, TX; four grandchildren Theresa Lynn Cole, Sonya Obenskey, Jerry Nickel, and Kenneth Nickel, 10 Great-grandchildren and 2 Great-Great grandchildren along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 31, 2002 from the Fort Sumner Church of Christ with Rev. Mike Teeter officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Powhatan Carter, Charlie Overton, Windell Bridges, John Bridges, David Bryant, E.E. Fish, Daniel Kennedy, and Mike Melton. Honorary bearers will include Clarence Cones, Allan Sparks, George Gonzales, and Lee Foster. The family prefers memorials to the Fort Sumner Cemetery Assn. P.O. Box 180; Fort Sumner, New Mexico 88119. All arrangements are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home 804 N. Fifth Street; Fort Sumner, New Mexico.
