Joseph Grayum “Jo Jo” Steele, age 19 of Dunlap, NM died Friday, March 18, 2005 in an automobile accident in Lincoln County. Jo Jo was born April 9, 1985 in Roswell, NM to the home of Joe and Karen (Bailey) Steele. He was reared on the family ranch in Dunlap, NM. He attended and graduated in 2003 from Fort Sumner High School. Jo Jo was currently in his Junior year at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, NM. Jo Jo was a Ham Radio Operator, he enjoyed working on his pickup, helping his dad on the family ranch, playing the guitar and mouth harp, and working on “hit and miss” engines. He was a person of great humor who loved and lived life to the fullest each and every day. He was a loving son, brother, grandson, nephew, uncle, cousin and friend. Jo Jo was preceded in death by his paternal grand parents Grayum and Grace Steele; his maternal grandfather Dave Bailey; and two cousins Robert Martin and Ty Calvert Carlyle. He will be dearly missed by his parents Joe and Karen Steele of Dunlap, NM; a brother Chris Steele of Carrizozo, NM; two sisters Elizabeth Steele of Roswell, NM; and Samantha Griego and husband Kurt of Fort Sumner, NM; his maternal grandmother Annie Bailey of Fort Sumner; two nephews Colby and James Griego; aunts and uncles Susanne Eldridge and David & Leslie Bailey of Fort Sumner and Betty & Charlie Martin of Dunlap, NM; his cousins Jerry Hart, Ramah Carlyle, Celeste Bailey, Kendra Bailey, Scott Martin, Greg Pennington and Scott Pennington. The Steele family will greet friends and family from 1pm to 2pm on Tuesday, March 22, 2005 at the Chavez Funeral Home. At 2:00 p.m. the procession will leave the funeral home to the Steele family ranch for a 3:00 p.m. Graveside service at Ingleville Cemetery. Anna Teeter will officiate. Pallbearers will be Scott Pennington, Greg Pennington, Bryce Mansell, Danny Milliron, Jerry Cones, Homero Madrid, Thane Peterson, and Paul Hinde. Honorary pallbearers will include John Wylie and all his many friends. Arrangements are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home, 804 North Fifth Street; Fort Sumner, New Mexico.
