Theresa Nunez Chavez Barajas

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Theresa Nunez Chavez Barajas at 3:00 PM, Wednesday, December 24, 2003 at St. Therese Catholic Church in Corona, NM with Father Dave Berg officiating. Mrs. Barajas passed away December 18, in Sacramento, CA after an extended illness. Mrs. Barajas was born in Corona, NM on February 10, 1926 to Pedro Nunez and Estefaita Alirez, both of whom preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death was a brother Henry Nunez, and three half brothers Salamon Nunez, Elias Nunez and Joe Nunez all of the Albuquerque area. On June 4, 1945, she married Jose Fidel Chavez of Vaughn, they later divorced and he also preceded her in death. She is survivied by her ten children, Corina Estefanita White of Roswell, NM, Zenida Celina Chavez of Northridge, CA, JoAnn Rita Arvizu of Sacramento, CA, Joe Jr. of Moreno Valley, CA, Mary Janet Dumont of Rosemond, CA, Aaron Blaise Chavez of Riverside, CA, Andrew Chavez of Albuquerque, Theresa Deborah Schibinger of Riverside, CA, Anthony Alonzo Barajas of Taos, NM and Carmel Anna Lee Mays of Rancho Cucamonga, CA, 18 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Also surviving is her brothers Abran Nunez of Roswell, NM, Pete Nunez of Kansas, City, MO and her sister Dora Saiz of Albuquerque, NM. Theresa has been active in her church, civic, community and political affairs throughout her life in New Mexico and California where the Mayor of Los Angeles honored her for community service. She has recently been active in the Senior Citizens Center in Corona and Taos during the times she resided in those communities. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Theresa Catholic Church in Corona, or to the Historical Center for Southeast New Mexico in Roswell. Mrs. Barajas will lie in state at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Corona from 1:30 PM until the time of the service on December 24, 2003.
