Catherine Sexton

Catalina Maria "Catherine" Sexton, age 76, died January 4, 2004 at an Albuquerque Hospital following an illness. Catherine was born February 8, 1927 in Colonias, NM to the home of Carlos and Sarah Elvira Gallegos Romero. she was reared in Colonias and Santa Rosa. Catherine married Raymond Sexton in 1944 in Santa Rosa. Catherine worked for the Community Action Agency as a director, for the Santa Rosa News and she also worked as a book keeper for the Holiday Inn of Santa Rosa for 32 years. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Parish. During the time that St. Rose School was opened she was involved in the St. Joseph Guild where she served as president. She served as a lecturer at church and was also a cursillista. Catherine is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Raymond Sexton and her brother Silvano Gutierrez. Surviving are her children Kathryn Esquibel and huband Joe of Santa Rosa, Ray V. Sexton of Santa Rosa, Regina Marquez and husband Robert of Albuquerque, Christine Romero of Santa Rosa, Stan Sexton of Rio Rancho, Roberta Fish and husband David of Scottsboro, Alabama, John Sexton of Rio Rancho, Harold Sexton and wife Vickie of Santa Rosa, Matthew Sexton and wife Shelly of Oklahoma City, OK, Abel Sexton and wife Bella of Jacksonville, FL. Also surviving are her sisters Grace Sisneros of Santa Rosa, Cecilia Lalla of Las Cruces, NM and her brother Carlos Romero and wife Confe of Colonias, NM, 18 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, along with numerous nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends. Rosary services will be held on Tuesday evening at 7:00 from St. Rose of Lima Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 7, at 10:00 am also from St. Rose Church with Father Nick Nichols officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Joe Esquibel Jr., Onofre Trujillo, Joel Sexton, Phil Sanchez III, Joe M. Sisneros, and Artie Salcido. All services are entrusted to the Chavez Funeral Home of Santa Rosa.
