Jose Horacio Chavez, age 69, passed away December 31, 2003 at an Albuquerque Hospital following an illness. Horacio was born June 20, 1934 in Puerto De Luna, NM to the home of Donaciano and Ana Zamora Chavez. He was reared and attended schools in Puerto De Luna. Horacio served in the United States Army from 1956 through 1958. He married Connie Baca October 3, 1953 in Santa Rosa. Horacio worked as a Law Enforcement Officer for many years for the City of Santa Rosa and Guadalupe County. He also worked for Pendelton Oil and Gas and Travel Centers of America. Horacio loved arrowhead hunting, hiking and yardwork. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church. He is preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Christine Chavez, his sisters Rose Chavez and Merlinda Lopez and his grandmother Adela Zamora. Survivors include his wife Connie Chavez of the family home in Santa Rosa, his daughter Monica Shank of Santa Rosa and his twin granddaughters that were the light of his life Sarah amd Christine Shank. Also surviving are his brothers Carlos Chavez and wife Fini of Belen, Meliton Chavez and wife Gloria also of Belen, Neo Chavez of Santa Rosa, his sister Gloria Tivis of Tuscon, AZ and his nephew Gene Chavez of Santa Rosa. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of reltives and friends. Rosary services will be held on Monday, January 5, at 7:00 from St. Rose of Lima Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 6, 2003 also from St. Rose Church with Father Nick Nichols officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Joseph Cemetery. Serving as Pallbearers will be Martin Baca, Dennis Gallegos, Herman Abeyta, Ray Baca, Jr., Neo Chavez and Mayo Campos, Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be his nieces and nephews.
