Iris M. Kinsey

Iris M. Kinsey, 89 a longtime Fort Sumner resident died Sunday, February 1, 2004 at Albuquerque Manor Care Center following an illness. Iris was born April 18, 1914 in Melrose, NM to the home of Hershall Adams and the former Georgia Catlin. She attended and graduated from the New Mexico School of the Blind in Alamogordo. While at the NM School of the Blind Iris learned to play the violin. Iris married Jack Kinsey Sr. in 1933. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fort Sumner, where she was baptized on November 29, 1981. Iris was a loving wife and mother, she worked hard all of her life. She was preceded in death by her husband Jack E. Kinsey on July 11, 1971, and her son Jack Millard Kinsey on July 20, 1985. Survivors include five nieces; Jo Carter of Albuquerque; Jimmie Hancock of Hampton, VA; Judy Mongeau of Tucson, AZ; Connie Baldwin of Melrose, NM; Debra Evans of California; five nephews; Paul Adams of Melrose; Jimmy Adams of Phoenix, AZ; Burt Adams and Don Adams of Albuquerque; and John Phillips of California. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, February 4, 2004 from the First Baptist Church in Fort Sumner with Rev. Coy Brewer officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot at Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Robin Simmons, Curtis Crawford, Burton Dickerman, Drew Best, Don Sweet, and Dick Haynes. Visitation will be Tuesday from 1PM to 6PM at the funeral home. The family prefers memorials in memory of Iris Kinsey to the NM School for the Visually Handicapped 1900 North White Sands Blvd, Alamogordo, NM 88310; or the Fort Sumner Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 180, Fort Sumner, New Mexico 88119.
