Anderson Plez Hickman, 83 of Fort Sumner died Saturday, January 24, 2004 at his home. A.P. was born July 18, 1920 in Corona, NM. He was one of thirteen children born to the home of John T. Hickman and the former Leesee Ann Rodgers. He attended school at Corona, NM. A.P. left school at age 13 following his mother’s death and went to work on area ranches and farms. He married Katherine Kendall on March 9, 1944 in Fort Sumner. For many years A.P. worked in building construction including several years in Odessa, TX and Roswell, NM. A.P. and Katherine retired to Fort Sumner in 1986. She preceded him in death on March 27, 1999. He was also preceded in death by ten brothers and sisters. A.P. enjoyed wood craft as a hobby. Survivors include two sons Larry Hickman and wife Paula; Keith A. Hickman all of Roswell, NM; two brothers Ira Hickman and wife Lilly of Belt, Montana; Ambrose Hickman and wife Elvena of Taiban, NM. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many good friends and neighbors. A gathering of family and friends will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, January 29, 2004 from the Chavez Funeral Home in Fort Sumner. Visitation will continue on Thursday from 1PM to 3PM. Cremation will take place with burial of cremains at Fort Sumner Cemetery.
