Alfonso Alarid, 83 of Santa Rosa, NM died Monday, June 21, 2004 at his home following a long illness. Alfonso was born May 5, 1921 in Puerto De Luna to the home of Escolastico Alarid and the former Conrada Zamora. He was raised and attended school in Puerto De Luna. He served in the U.S. Army from December 14, 1942 until December 2, 1945. His tour of duty included Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe. He was assigned to Battery B 572 an Anti Aircraft Artillery Unit. Following his honorable discharge he returned to Santa Rosa. He married Esther Martinez in Las Vegas, NM on September 8, 1946. Alfonso worked in Santa Rosa for many years with Bennett Motor Company, and Central Motor Company. Alfonso and Esther owned and operated Donnie’s Café for 15 years. Alfonso has owned and operated Donnie’s R.V. Park in Santa Rosa since 1983. He was a member of American Legion Post #36 in Santa Rosa and a longtime member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his wife Esther Alarid in 1992; his parents; three sisters Amelia Sandoval, Bertha Griego, and Mickey Ortiz; two brothers Octaviano Alarid and Ramon Alarid. Survivors include two sons Tommy Alarid of Santa Fe, NM; and Donnie Alarid and wife Rhonda of Santa Rosa, NM; a sister Antonia Sena; and a brother Charlie Alarid both of Roswell, NM; six grandchildren Victoria Silva, Donna Silva, Valerie Alarid, Deanna Alarid of Santa Rosa; Camille Apodaca of Las Vegas, NM, and Ariella Alarid of Santa Fe, NM; two great-grandchildren Ryan James Apodaca and Erika Apodaca of Las Vegas, NM. Rosary services will be held at 7:00 P.M. Thursday, June 24, 2004 from St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Santa Rosa. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated from the church at 10:00 A.M. Friday, June 25, 2004. Burial of cremains will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery, Santa Fe, New Mexico.
