V.G. Kyle

V.G. "Red" Kyle, 77 of Fort Sumner, NM died Tuesday evening, April 27, 2004, following a sudden illness. Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, May 1, 2004 at the First United Methodist Church in Fort Sumner,Rev. Monty Leavell officiating. Burial will follow at FT. Sumner cemetery. Red was born September 6, 1926 in Brownfield, Texas to F.R. and Edna (Walters) Kyle. He attended and graduated from Fort Sumner High School in 1944. Red was a veteran serving as an M1 Rifle Marksman receiving the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He married Leila Ione Wilmeth on November 26, 1953 at Ft. Sumner. Red was ranch manager of the Buckeye Ranch in Ft. Sumner for 33 1/2 years. Red was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Ft. Sumner; a Demolay Dad serving on the Adult Advisory Board; a 32 Degree Master Mason; a member of Eastern Star and Order of the Rainbow Girls; past president of F.F. A. Adult Leader Group; past President of the NM Junior Rodeo Association, a group he worked actively in for over 40 years; and a member of the American Quarter Horse Association. He was most of all a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. Red was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Joe and Dub Kyle. Survivors include his wife, Leila, of the home; one daughter, Sandra Ione Mixon and husband Terry of Canadian, Texas. Three sons, Marshall Kyle and wife, Phyllis of Collinsville, TX; Michael "Pete" Kyle and wife Tamra of Whitesboro, TX; and William Jeff Kyle and wife, June, of Ft. Sumner; also surviving are one brother Jack Kyle of Yukon, OK; nine grandchildren, Kylene and Brandon Skipworth, Cody Mixon, Ryan, Reed, Lainey, Scott, Kari and Courtney Kyle, along with several nieces, nephews and other relatives and many friends. Pallbearers will be Bob West, Charlie West, Mike Scott, William Spitz, Joe Spitz, C. W. Grissom, Emmett Fallon, and Clay Crist. Honorary bearers are his grandchildren, all his friends and the youth of New Mexico that he worked with. Memorial contributions can be made to the V. G.
