Robert Wayne Marquez

Robert Wayne Marquez, 15 of Tucumcari, NM died Saturday, February 2, 2008 in an automobile accident near Taiban, NM. Robert was born February 19, 1992 the son of Robert and Leeann Marquez. He lived in Puerto De Luna and Santa Rosa where he attended Kindergarten. His family moved to Fort Sumner and Robert completed elementary school. For the past five years he has attended Tucumcari Public Schools and was a sophomore at Tucumcari High School where he was a member of the Varsity Golf Team and Student Council. Robert loved spending time with his family in Puerto De Luna, Santa Rosa and Fort Sumner. He was a drummer at First Assembly of God Church in Tucumcari and a member of the Center Street United Methodist Church Youth Group. He was affectionately known to his family and friends as “Pillz”. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Antonio and Magdalena Chavez, maternal grandfather Wayne Bjorkland and an uncle Donald Carroll. Robert Wayne was a loving son, brother, and grandson he is survived by his mother Leeann Marquez, his father Robert Marquez and a brother Johnny Joe Marquez all of Tucumcari, NM; his maternal grandmother Mae E. Bjorkland of Fort Sumner and his pet Chihuahua “Chiquita”. Also surviving are numerous aunts, uncles, other relatives and many friends. Rosary services will be held at 7:00 PM Monday, February 4, 2008 from St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Santa Rosa, NM. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, February 5, 2008 also from St. Rose of Lima with Father Nick Nichols officiating burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Santa Rosa. Pallbearers will include Nathan Andrada, Matt Trujillo, Johnny Joe Marquez, Billy Lopez, Steve Carroll, Joey Campos, Cole Cooper, Nikko Carroll and Ronald Carroll. Honorary bearers will include the Tucumcari High School Golf Team, Sophomore Class and his friends and family. Visitation was held on Sunday from 4pm to 7pm at Chavez Funeral Home in Fort Sumner and on Monday from 1pm – 6pm at the Chavez Funeral Home, 923 S. Third Street; Santa Rosa, New Mexico.
